Accelerating a Healthtech Company’s Transformation to Databricks

A healthcare technology company’s strategic migration to Databricks had stalled midway through implementation, delaying its broader data modernization strategy and preventing the organization from fully realizing the value of Databricks.  

Nearly 30 critical pipelines remained blocked or incomplete across the bronze, silver, and gold layers of the architecture, limiting the organization’s ability to fully transition away from its legacy cloud-native environment. As the backlog grew, so did the risk of continued reliance on a platform that was increasingly difficult to scale and maintain.

While they had invested in a standardized framework that provided a clear foundation for the migration, the team lacked the technical depth needed to translate it into production-ready pipelines. Complex transformation logic, spread across multiple repositories and tightly coupled between systems, required deep expertise in Databricks, Spark, and dbt. Without that specialized knowledge, the team was unable to confidently resolve issues or advance the remaining pipelines, prolonging the migration and increasing reliance on the legacy environment.

Working within the client's existing framework and tooling from day one, we became a seamless extension of their team, rapidly developing a deep understanding of their configuration-driven pipeline architecture, CI/CD processes, and legacy transformation logic distributed across repositories. With this foundation in place, we systematically worked through the pipeline backlog, resolving issues and advancing development across bronze, silver, and gold layers. For downstream dependencies, we translated legacy transformation logic into dbt models, ensuring consistency with upstream processing in Databricks, providing scalable and cost-effective interoperability.
